Indonesia and France have enjoyed a diplomatic relationship for over seventy years since its establishment in 1947. Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron received a warm state welcome during his visit to Jakarta, reflecting the friendship and respect between the two nations. On this occasion, about 3,000 students from elementary to high school levels gathered at Merdeka Palace and around the National Monument (Monas), dressed smartly and waving flags in the colors of Indonesia and France. Amid tight security, President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron arrived at the palace, greeted by President Prabowo Subianto in an official welcome ceremony. The event included national anthems, a 21-gun salute, and an inspection of the honor guard under the clear blue sky of Jakarta, with Macron acknowledging the excited students in the palace courtyard.

In attendance were ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, as well as Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo. Macron’s Indonesian visit also included stops at the Military Academy in Magelang and Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, highlighting the cultural and educational ties shared by the two countries. Following the welcome ceremony, President Macron and President Prabowo engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting to discuss strategic partnerships, emphasizing the strengthening of relations between Indonesia and France.
