The recent visit of President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, to Brazil brought great pride to members of Indonesia’s diaspora. Isaque Hattu, the Chair of the Indonesian Diaspora in São Paulo, was among those present to warmly welcome the President on a Saturday morning. Hattu, known for his active involvement in supporting the Indonesian community in Brazil, expressed his delight in greeting President Prabowo and the delegation. Despite the relatively small number of Indonesian diaspora in Brazil, Hattu emphasized their strong sense of solidarity in welcoming their country’s leader.
During the encounter, Hattu had the opportunity to have an informal conversation with Prabowo, where he shared a bit about his family background originating from Maluku and Kupang. The President responded warmly to Hattu’s story and even recognized the name of Petrus Oktavianus, an Indonesian figure once assigned to Brazil. As the meeting came to a close, Hattu expressed his hope that Prabowo’s leadership would bolster the ties between Brazil and Indonesia through cultural exchange and grassroots engagement. This encounter signifies a special moment for Indonesia’s diaspora in Brazil, marking a positive step towards strengthening the relationship between the two nations.
