A recent study conducted in Aceh has revealed that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program has a positive impact on children’s concentration levels, as shown by improvements in short-term memory assessments. This enhancement in concentration is believed to contribute to a sustained motivation for learning among students. According to Ikeu Tanziha, an Expert Council Member of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), this research supports the idea that providing free nutritious meals to students can lead to better educational outcomes and strengthen their dedication to learning.

Another study carried out by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) showed similar results, indicating that the MBG program enhances learning focus and cognitive performance in students, especially those who did not have breakfast before. A case study at State Vocational School 6 (SMK Negeri 6) in Medan demonstrated a significant improvement in attendance motivation and classroom concentration after implementing the MBG program.

Ikeu emphasized the importance of concentration, which is closely connected to attention and the brain’s ability to process stimuli. She highlighted various factors that can influence concentration such as learning motivation, nutritional intake, psychological well-being, and physiological conditions like sleep quality and environmental factors. The role of key nutrients such as protein, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids in brain development and cognitive function, especially memory, was also emphasized.

The MBG Program aims to not only address children’s nutritional needs for physical growth but also to enhance their cognitive potential and intelligence. Despite challenges like unhealthy consumption habits and limited access to nutritious foods in some areas, Ikeu stressed the importance of collective efforts to ensure the successful implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals Program. It is believed that this initiative will bring long-term benefits to future generations and society as a whole.
