President Prabowo Subianto has always shown a strong connection towards farmers, as stated by Dedek Prayudi, Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO). This bond can be traced back to significant moments in Prabowo’s life, including his time as a military officer and his leadership of the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI). The importance of farmers and agriculture was highlighted during the grand corn harvest for the Food Security Program in Jenggalu Village, Bengkulu Province, attended by President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
In the current global situation, where Indonesia needs to reduce its reliance on foreign food supplies, the food security program plays a crucial role. By providing government support such as subsidized fertilizers, pesticides, and agricultural machinery, the program aims to increase cultivated areas and yields while motivating farmers. Efforts are being made to ensure administrative requirements are expedited to access subsidized fertilizers and maximize the facilities provided by the government for higher production capacity and farmer satisfaction.
Kelik Budianan, from the National Food Agency (Pusdatin Bapanas), expressed support for President Prabowo’s initiative and highlighted coordination with the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to absorb farmers’ corn harvests. Integration of supply chains between farmers and livestock breeders is also underway to ensure favorable prices for crops, feed costs, and livestock. This collaborative effort was acknowledged by various officials and representatives during the event, emphasizing the importance of supporting farmers and enhancing food security in Indonesia.
