President Prabowo Subianto recently announced the elimination of bonuses for commissioners and directors of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and a reduction in the number of commissioners. He criticized the practice of awarding profit-sharing bonuses known as tantiem to executives, calling it absurd. During the presentation of the 2026 State Budget Bill, Prabowo expressed his disbelief over commissioners receiving up to Rp 40 billion in tantiem payments despite only attending meetings once a month. He emphasized the need for real profits and transparency in company finances, stating that directors of loss-making companies should not receive tantiem. Prabowo also highlighted the excessive number of commissioners in some SOEs and instructed the Danantara Investment Authority to streamline their management. He emphasized the importance of efficient and accountable public spending to ensure tangible benefits for the people and the economy.
